Houston Methodist offers excellent support and encouragement for nurses seeking certification. Therefore, we provide our nurses with several certification review courses to ensure they will be well-prepared and successful with their certification exams.
Houston Methodist, in collaboration with the Texas Medical Center, offers the Medical-Surgical Certification Exam Review Course twice a year. The course is a comprehensive and intensive two-day program designed for registered nurses seeking to enhance their knowledge and skills in medical-surgical nursing. This didactic course covers essential topics, evidence-based practices, and critical thinking strategies required to excel in the medical-surgical nursing field. For this activity, participants can receive 13.75 Nursing Continuing Professional Development contact hours for this activity.
The Stroke Certified Registered Nurse (SCRN) Review Course is a comprehensive review for registered nurses interested in taking the SCRN exam. The course is offered twice a year, approximately one month prior to each exam testing period. The Houston Methodist system offers this course, and the location of the review course rotates among each system hospital.
The Houston Methodist Nurse Executive (NE-BC) Review Course helps participants prepare for the exam with critical test-taking strategies and an overview of all tested domains, including Human Resource Management, Quality and Safety, Business Management and Health Care Delivery. Participants can receive 12.25 Nursing Continuing Professional Development contact hours for this activity. This course is offered three times per year.
We are collaborating with our system hospitals to develop a review course for our critical care nurses (CCRN) next year. We also will continue looking for more options to help and promote certification to all our nurses.
Please let us know if you would like to receive more information regarding our review certification courses or if you would like us to include other specialties. Be sure to check your Houston Methodist email for CNREP announcements.
