Houston Methodist Baytown Hospital:
Kathy Arthurs, Ph.D., MSN, RN, NPD-BC, RNC-OB
Magnet Program Director
Houston Methodist Baytown Hospital
Houston Methodist provides financial support to nurses to obtain their certifications and achieve professional development goals through various certification programs such as ANCC’s Success Pays, the AACN’s CCRN/PCCN Voucher Program, and the Perioperative Take2 Program that covers expenses for certification exams. Houston Methodist Baytown Hospital (HMB) pays for initial and renewal professional nursing certifications. The HMB Education Department coordinates the distribution of the exam code for the ANCC’s Success Pays Program. The Critical Care Service Nurse Leaders coordinate the AACN’s CCRN/PCCN Voucher Program, and the Perioperative Service Nurse Leaders coordinate the Take 2 Program and the Perioperative Voucher Program. For any other professional nursing board certification in a specialty area, such as Emergency Nursing, Oncology, Ambulatory Care, Case Management, and Maternal Child Health, among others, nurses pay the exam fees upfront. They may create an expense report in MARS for reimbursement for exam fees by using the Dues and Subscription line item in MARS for initial or re-certification for reimbursement. The hospital’s Crowning Achievement Fund pays for these professional board certifications for nurses. Upon receiving a certification, nurses are asked to update their Nursing Census profile on the HMB Intranet and email HMB Professional Achievements to receive their certification badge buddy and provide notification to Nursing Leadership and the Human Resource Department.
Houston Methodist Clear Lake:
Brandee Duncan, MSN, RN, NE-BC, NPD-BC
Magnet Program Director
Houston Methodist Clear Lake Hospital
Houston Methodist Clear Lake will pay for one new professional certification per nurse. To get started, confirm the certification is Magnet-approved. Houston Methodist Clear Lake nurses should email the HMCL Education Department before registering for an exam to receive a voucher. If a voucher does not exist for the approved certification, nurses may be reimbursed for the cost of the exam. Certified nurses may be reimbursed for renewing one certification annually through the Crowning Achievement Fund.
Houston Methodist Continuing Care Hospital:
Harvinder Kaur, MSN, MA, M.Ed., RN, CVRN-BC
Manager Clinical Education
Houston Methodist Continuing Care Hospital
Houston Methodist Continuing Care provides financial support for nurses to obtain their certifications and achieve professional development goals through various eligible certification programs such as ANCC’s Success Pays, CCRN/ PCCN Voucher Program, or CVRN Certification Course and Exam. Houston Methodist Continuing Care Hospital (HMCCH) covers one new professional certification or renewal per nurse. The HMCCH Education Department, in collaboration with Nursing leadership, is currently managing all the certification programs for its staff. HMCCH staff are advised to contact the Manager of Clinical Education for certification information and to receive a voucher or exam code key before registering for an exam. Each department’s cost center covers reimbursement for new certificates and renewals. If a voucher does not exist for any eligible certification and the exam fee is paid out-of-pocket, staff may submit the receipt for certification fees as an expense reimbursement in MARS. Upon receiving a certification, staff are advised to update their Nursing Census profile on the Houston Methodist intranet and email certification to the education department to receive their certification badge buddy.

Houston Methodist Willowbrook:
Angela P. Jackson, MSN, RN, ACM-RN, FAACM
Magnet Program Director
Houston Methodist Willowbrook Hospital
The nursing certification program at Houston Methodist Willowbrook (HMWB) is robustly supported by our organization’s executive leadership team and our Center for Professional Excellence department. Eligible nurses at Houston Methodist Willowbrook can obtain advanced nursing certifications with funding allocated through the Center for Professional Excellence to encourage the professional growth and development of each of our nurses. Our goal is to make obtaining professional certification as user-friendly as possible. Nurses may opt for pre-approval and pre-payment options for their specialty certification or submit for payment reimbursement once they submit proof of paying for and receiving a certification on the ANCC-approved list. Through the ANCC “Success Pays” program, nurses receive an access code to cover the cost of registering for their initial certification exam at no out-of-pocket cost. HMWB also uses Crowning Achievement funds, an endowment established to support nursing excellence at Houston Methodist Community Hospitals, to reimburse the cost of re-certification. For more information, questions can be submitted to WB-Education.
