The successful implementation and dissemination of research, quality and process improvement projects are essential to staff’s professional development, recognition and satisfaction. They are embedded into our Houston Methodist culture and necessary to maintain Magnet designations at all entities successfully. Implementation science is pivotal to the new knowledge, innovation and improvements and exemplary professional practice Magnet domains.
Houston Methodist has a reputation for leading medicine. As Magnet Program Directors, we take pride in being able to provide our teams with resources, support, and guidance both collectively and individually. At all entities, the Professional Practice Leaders, Professional Development Leaders (PDLs), Magnet Program Directors, and Nurse Scientists serve as resources for staff developing and implementing their ideas and projects. At Houston Methodist The Woodlands, RN IVs also serve as a resource to support staff with project development. Houston Methodist West and Houston Methodist at the Texas Medical Center offer Idea Workshops and Think Spaces, allowing staff to build creative ideas. Houston Methodist Willowbrook offers a Clinical Career Path Portfolio Workshop to support staff working on projects for promotion.
Houston Methodist Academic Institute and PDLs lead abstract writing workshops to support the dissemination of projects. Projects are also shared in Chief Nursing Office newsletters, shared governance councils and various symposiums across the system. Houston Methodist Continuing Care also shares projects during monthly staff meetings. Houston Methodist Sugar Land holds Lunch and Learns, and Houston Methodist Baytown holds Magnet Mixers to allow staff to present work internally. All entities host an Interprofessional Magnet Poster Fair at least annually. Houston Methodist Clear Lake hosts two events each year focused on disseminating internal work. Staff at all entities are also supported to present externally at local, national and international conferences.
