Nurses have the unique position of being with the patients 24/7. As such, they are the healthcare providers who can impact preventing hospital-associated infections the most.
Two of the most common hospital-associated infections include Central Line-Associated Blood Stream Infections (CLABSIs) and Catheter-Associated Urinary Tract Infections (CAUTIs). While the causes of both CAUTIs and CLABSIs are often multi-factorial, research has shown that by creating bundles of care for urinary catheters and central venous catheters, infection rates decrease. Completing all components of the CAUTI and CLABSI prevention bundles is crucial. Below are two quick guides for steps you can take every day to prevent CAUTIs and CLABSIs.
