Grit is defined as “perseverance and passion for long-term goals” (Duckworth et al., 2007, p. 1087). The Grit scale is a short self-reflection questionnaire developed by psychologist Angela Duckworth and her colleagues, who examined grit across six studies. Their research suggests that the Grit scale is a reliable and valid tool for assessing perseverance through self-reflection and should be viewed as a developmental tool, rather than a measure of performance. The questionnaire asks respondents to reflect on how they respond to challenges, setbacks and sustained effort, offering insight into behaviors that support long-term growth and resilience (Duckworth et al., 2007).
